Personal Development

Personal Development

Our school goes beyond the expected, so that pupils have access to a wide, rich set of experiences. We aim to introduce our pupils to a wide breadth of opportunities to enable them to make informed choices about their futures and uncover and nurture their God-given talents. To do this we ensure that during their time at St Aelred’s, children are offered a variety of enrichment opportunities.

Our enrichment opportunities are designed to extend beyond the academic; with a specific focus on our community and wider society. This is because we want our pupils to experience a wide range of opportunities in our ever-changing world. We focus on developing pupils’ moral, spiritual, social and cultural understanding so that they are well-prepared for life in modern Britain.

Extracurricular & After School Clubs

We have a wide range of after school clubs on offer at St. Aelred’s. Our choice of clubs is informed by our parents and children through regularly gathering feedback from children and families.

Spring (2026) Clubs

Chess – Wednesdays (Years 1-6)

Football – Tuesdays (Years 4-6)

Choir – Tuesdays (KS2))

Dance – Mondays (KS2)

Art & Crafts – Mondays (Reception & KS1)

Musical Theatre – Thursdays (Years 1-6)

Piano – Mondays (Years 1-6)

Rock Steady – Mondays (Years 2-6)

Pupil Leadership

At St. Aelred’s, we are proud to offer a wide range of pupil leadership groups that give our children the opportunity to develop their confidence, teamwork, and decision-making skills. These groups allow pupils to take an active role in shaping school life, through representing their peers, leading on important initiatives, and supporting whole-school events. Each group plays a vital part in making our school community inclusive, engaging, and forward-thinking. By working together, our pupil leaders not only strengthen their own skills but also help to create a positive and inspiring environment for everyone.

Well done to St Aelred’s KS2 Cross Country runners who competed in the blustery York School Sports Network event today. You did us proud, showing courage, respect and friendship, supporting each other and even stopping to help other children who needed a helping hand - just amazing! ... See MoreSee Less
