Our Chaplaincy Team helps us to keep focused on ensuring that we, ‘make Christ known and loved’ (Bishop of Middlesbrough, the Right Reverend Terence Drainey) in our school. The Chaplaincy team endeavour to do this by living out the Chaplaincy prayer:

Dear Lord,
Give us the strength to spread your light and love across our school community.
Help us to be role models of showing friendship, courage and respect to all.
Inspire us to serve you and each other in all we say and do.
Amen

And following the example of service Jesus set when he washed his disciples’ feet at the Last
Supper

“I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” John 13:15

The role of the Chaplaincy Team at St Aelred’s is to:
* Work as a team to support and develop the spiritual life of the school.
* Lead by example, striving to demonstrate friendship, courage and respect every day so
that everyone is ‘Learning Together in Friendship with God’.
* Prepare the hall for weekly worship, monitor prayer spaces in classrooms and develop
prayer spaces around school, linked to the Liturgical Year.
* Help others become closer to God – by leading whole school prayer services, visiting
classrooms to encourage others to pray in different ways, including saying the Rosary,
sharing the school prayer, introducing and leading creative prayer and modelling how to
use the Travelling Cribs.
* Deepen understanding of the liturgical seasons and special days, including October- the
month of the Holy Rosary, All Souls Day, Advent and Ash Wednesday, through liturgy
and prayer.
